Grant family attended after arriving in Galena in 1860; First Presbyterian Church, built in 1838, it is the oldest church building of any Protestant denomination in continuous service in the Old Northwest Territory; Grace Episcopal Church, the oldest Episcopal Church in continuous use in the Diocese of Chicago, where you can view the irreplaceable Belgian glass windows; and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, established to serve Galena’s growing German Catholic population, where the 1878 painting of the Assumption can be seen.
